Get the most out of kDrive with Aubora
kDrive is Infomaniak's cloud storage, hosted in Switzerland. It limits how many requests an app can make and only provides small thumbnails, which shapes how Aubora scans a kDrive library. This guide explains how to organize your photos there and how to make the first scan faster.
What you need
- A kDrive (the free plan includes 15 GB; kDrive Solo has 3 TB).
- Aubora installed (download).
1. Put your photos on kDrive
If your photos aren't on kDrive yet, upload them with the kDrive desktop app or the website.
Keep them under one top folder, such as Photos, with any structure you like inside (by year,
by event). Aubora reads the date and location inside each file, so folder names don't matter.
Coming from another service? The guides explain how to export from Google Photos, iCloud, Amazon Photos, OneDrive, and self-hosted apps.
2. Connect kDrive to Aubora
The connection uses an API token with the drive – Drive products scope and the address of your kDrive's home page. The quick start guide walks through it, along with the connection error messages. Then pick your photo folders with Browse….
3. Choose how the first scan reads your photos
kDrive limits each account to about 60 API requests per minute, and its thumbnails are only 400 px wide. Aubora's Download originals during the scan option decides how each photo is read. It's on by default for kDrive libraries:
| Option on | Option off | |
|---|---|---|
| What is read | The original file | kDrive's 400 px thumbnail |
| API requests per photo | 1 | 2 |
| Speed on a good connection (our tests) | about 65 photos/min | about 30 photos/min |
| Faces and previews | Sharper | Small faces can be missed |
| Data downloaded | The whole library, once | Much less |
The original file comes from kDrive's file servers, which don't count toward the request limit. That's why downloading originals is faster on a good connection even though it moves more data. On a slow or metered connection, thumbnails are the better choice.
The option is per library: in Settings → Library, open the library's menu, then Cache → Download originals during the scan. A change applies from the next scan. The originals aren't kept on your disk: each one is read to analyze the photo and make its preview, then discarded.
4. Let the first scan run
A large library takes hours on kDrive because of the request limit. That's expected. The scan runs in the background, you can search the photos already indexed, and it resumes where it stopped if you quit Aubora. Later scans only look at what changed and are much faster.
Troubleshooting
Connection or folder errors.
The quick start guide lists the kDrive messages and what to do for each.
It stopped working after a few months.
The token probably expired. Create a new one and paste it in Source & connection; your index is kept.
The scan seems stuck.
Check the progress in the library: on kDrive it moves slowly but steadily. If it really doesn't move, quit and reopen Aubora; the scan resumes. If that doesn't help, follow What to do if you're stuck to send us the logs.
